About

What is the Campaign for Accountable Democracy in Bangladesh (CADB) about?
The Campaign for Accountable Democracy in Bangladesh is about bringing reforms within the political parties of Bangladesh to make them democratic, accountable, corruption-free and law abiding institutions. Bangladesh is currently presented with a unique opportunity to reform its major institutions of democracy. However, this historic moment will be short-lived unless each of us can contribute towards bringing about progress within our political culture. CADB is about creating and leveraging the grassroots effort to add to the voices of change.

What are the tactical goals of the CADB?
Our short-term and tactical goals are:

  1. Collect 10,000 signatures via an online petition by June 2008.
  2. Spark a grassroots movement for accountable democracy
  3. Present the petition for change to the major political parties of Bangladesh during summer 2008.

How can 10,000 signatures change anything in Bangladesh?
Your skepticism is understandable. Over the last one year the caretaker government (CTG) and some politicians have been quite vocal about the need for reform of political parties and accountable democracy. However, this CTG is not a representation of the nation though they have been welcomed by the mass population.

The reason we are initiating this campaign is to create the leverage for your voice so that we have the strength to ask for accountable democracy. The benefits are two fold, (1) We initiate a move within the ordinary people without any political motivation and (2) this happens to provide, to some extent, a public mandate for change.

Who are we?
Bd-democracy.org is a project of Change Bangladesh and is run on a day to day basis by Raheem Mohammed and Kawser Jamal. It is a grassroots campaign of Bangladeshis and friends of Bangladesh around the world. We are not affiliated with any political party. We support any party, policy and action that are good for Bangladesh. We are not owners of this campaign but rather see ourselves as facilitators.

How can I help?

2. Ask your friends and family members to sign the petition.

The petition signed by you will add voice to the need for change in our political culture. By signing this petition you will join and grow a movement of change. Once we achieve our goal of 10,000 signatures we will hand deliver the petition to the major political parties during the summer of 2008. We will continue to assist, organize and monitor the efforts for change in our political culture.
